  • Childhood Obesity: a condition where excess body fat negatively affects a child's health or wellbeing.
  • Generic E. Coli: commonly found in the intestinal tract of food animals.  It is used in the drinking water industry as the definitive indicator of recent faecal contamination of water.
  • Let's Move Campaign: a campaign to end childhood obesity in the United States. The campaign was started by First Lady Michelle Obama. The initiative has the goal of "solving the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation so that children born today will reach adulthood at a healthy weight."
  • National School Lunch Act: a United States federal law signed by President Harry S. Truman in 1946. The act created the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). 
  • National School Lunch Program (NSLP): A federally assisted meal program that provides low-cost or free lunches to eligible students. It is sometimes referred to as the free/reduced-price lunch program. Free lunches are offered to those students whose family incomes are at or below 130 percent of the poverty level; reduced-price lunches are offered to those students whose family incomes are between 130 percent and 185 percent of the poverty level.
  • Spent Hen: a term used for a hen who is past her prime egg laying years. Most chickens start to lay eggs at about four to six months old. They peak at about eighteen to twenty months of age and although they will continue to lay eggs up to about three years old they may not lay daily. Spent hens are often fattened up with a diet of corn for a few weeks and then used for meat in compost or pet foods.
  • U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA): the United States federal executive department responsible for developing and executing U.S. federal government policy on farming, agriculture, and food. It aims to meet the needs of farmers and ranchers, promote agricultural trade and production, work to assure food safety, protect natural resources, foster ruralcommunities and end hunger in the United States and abroad.
  • William J. Clinton Foundation: established by former President of the United States Bill Clinton with the stated mission to "strengthen the capacity of people throughout the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence." The Foundation focuses on four critical areas: health security; economic empowerment; leadership development and citizen service; and racial, ethnic and religious reconciliation. The Foundation works principally through partnerships with like-minded individuals, organizations, corporations, and governments, often serving as an incubator for new policies and programs.
